This is a particle system I made to create speed lines behind the main character of a game I worked on called Jetpack Penguin. It was created in Fall of 2019. It creates particles whenever it moves, and those particles move away from it based on how fast it’s moving when it spawns them. Each of the particles has a trail attached and they shrink over time to give the trail a nice tapered curve. You can see the particle system in action in the footage below taken from the latest prototype of Jetpack Penguin.
